What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the movement and correct alignment of the teeth to improve the appearance of your smile and dental health.
The changes in the position of the teeth are normally achieved by using fixed braces. This is because removable orthopaedic appliances do not always align teeth well whilst, on the other hand, fixed braces do not correct underlying problems with bone structure.
Therefore, orthodontic appliances are often combined with a course of orthopaedic treatment to achieve final alignment of the teeth, following correction of the jaw problems.
Orthodontic braces
Fixed braces are most widely used in Orthodontics, with a choice of metal, ceramic and speed brackets and the exciting new ‘Wild Smiles’. We are also able to offer the innovative Clear Step Invisible braces for patient with mild to moderate problems.
Metal fixed braces
Metal Fixed braces are the most commonly used in Orthodontics and are made from stainless steel, with a metal arch wire attached to the brackets by an elastic module. Colourful elastic modules can also be placed over the brackets to make them more fun for our younger patients.
Speed brackets - System R
System R is a revolutionary new system of braces that is not only faster for your orthodontist to use, it also can significantly shorten treatment time. It’s great looking and smaller for greater comfort, plus it offers better hygiene than conventional braces.
Wild Smiles
Wild Smiles Brackets are making a big impact in the world of orthodontics. These fantastic designs can be mixed and matched to give a truly unique look to your braces and can also incorporate coloured ties for added fun.
Ceramic (tooth coloured) braces
Ceramic tooth coloured braces are the most popular choice amongst our adult patients and are growing in popularity with our teenagers. They are very discreet and blend in perfectly with the natural colour of your teeth to give a great aesthetic look.
Clearstep
Clearstep is a simple series of clear positioning trays, which gently guide your teeth from their present to the desired position. Clearstep exerts gentle pressure upon the teeth in the direction in which you'd like them to move. It is invisible, and removable and no one can tell you are wearing them! If you are looking for beautifully straight teeth, but do not want to wear conventional fixed braces, then Clearstep is for you.
